my first reason I chose this book is because I like football.

DeleteI chose staying fat because the friendship dynamic seemed intresting. yes even though i am only 10 pages in the way chris writes is nice and not to confusing. The reading is intresting because the fat guy swimming is intresting and why he chose swimming. I can connect because i like making friends like the main charecters.

DeleteI chose the book Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes as my number one book choice because when I read the review it seemed like a book I would be interested in. I also chose it because I thought it was strange how Sarah's last name is Byrnes and she has burns all over her body. I am very happy with my choice so far because so far what I have read seems very mysterious. My thoughts about this book so far is I am wondering what Eric did that his principal is very mad at him. I also want to know how long Sarah has been at the hospital and if she will ever get to leave the hospital. I am enjoying the book so far and I am also finding the book very interesting. I have made connections of Sarah to this actor in Grey's Anatomy that also had burns all over her hospital.

This book was one of my top 3 choices because the title intrigued me. The word handcuffs just could mean so many different things but since the book is called chinese handcuffs it has a whole different meaning. Also having painful memories hits home to me because in the book dillion suffers with the painful memory of his brothers suicide, while mine is of my worthless father who was basically non existent in my life except for bad things.
My initial thought about this book is dillion trying to do extraordinary things like train for the ironman triathlon while he deals with the suicide he apparently had a part in it. I thought that what would be the reason for your input in the suicide so i was intrigued from the beginning.
staying fats main character Eric relates to Dillion because they both have rough backgrounds.

DeleteChinese handcuffs was my number one pick it touches on alot of the problems we have in todays world. Im only about 20 pages in but so far I like it it is quite interesting as the main character is greiving his brothers death but not in the way most people greive.

Third reason is because i learning bout peoples lives are entertaining.

ReplyDeleteChinese handcuffs was one of my top 3 picks because it seemed like it would interest me the most out of the 4 choices. i think it will be interesting because the main character Dillon is trying to keep his life normal after dealing with his brothers sucide death. I think the book should keep me interested.

The way he hooks the reader into the novel shows that he is a good writer. I cannot wait to read this amazing book! I have not had any connection to the book yet but I can see myself connecting to it later on.

DeleteI chose this book because I realized that it is reality for some people, it was intriguing. After I read the back of the book and a part of a random page and seemed like a good book to read. So far after reading the little bit that I have it is really good, and I find it pretty enjoyable. I have not made any connections with the book yet since I am needing more information, but I am super excited to read this book.
ReplyDeleteStaying Fat for Sarah Byrnes is my book. I was gone that day to pick my top three but so far it sounds like a good book. I'm happy that it is somewhat interesting for me to read otherwise I would hate reading. it. I have started reading it, sounds like so far a fat kid that likes to swim and has a football coach (I think) that has been trying to recruit the kid since freshmen year. he also has a dad that left his mom when he was born. his dad has not got in touch with him since he was born so it sounds like he doesn't care about his son. I also think this book will be somewhat enjoyable and interesting.

DeleteI chose Chinese Handcuffs because the darker themes seemed like they would make for a more interesting story than the other choices. So far the story has a compelling start and I am enjoying it. I am starting to connect with Dillon, the main character by getting to see him in the middle of his triathlon which shows that fitness is a big part of his life and with the letter which shows him letting out his inner thoughts.

DeleteI picked Chinese handcuffs because the characters have their own situations they are dealing with, and it seemed interesting. it was number one choice because of how much the character Dillion stood out to me and unlike the other books it seemed like it would be a good read and i wouldn't get bored of it. I'm pretty happy with the book so far, I mean the one part that stood out was when they killed the cat for scratching their dogs' nose. i can't make any connections right now because i am only 24 pages in but once i get further i feel like i'll be able to able to.

DeleteI received Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes which was my first choice. I chose this book because I think I will enjoy how the story plays out and it sounds interesting. I am only a few pages in and so far it seems like Eric the main character or narrator, is going to be a good prospective of the story. I look forward to getting deeper into the book.

DeleteStotan! is a very unique name for a book it stood out too me from the start. This interest really stuck with me when I found out that it was about swimming on a swimming team. This resonated with me because my father swam in college and in high school. That simple connection was reinforced by the page in front of the first page which is who Chris Crutcher attributed the book to, which in this case was his father.

DeleteI'm not much of a swim fan but this would be a great second choice for my book. It's cool that stotan is an abbreviation of sorts that combines stoic and spartan to create stotan.

ReplyDeleteI too, have not had any connections within my book. For one, I haven't read it yet, and for two, it is the beginning of the book and even reading the back of it I haven't had anything that relates to me besides the idea of "hardship."
DeleteI chose to read the book Chinese Handcuffs because the main character Dillon seems to have interesting struggles and I was intrigued to see how everything plays out. I am happy with my choice so far; in the first 20 pages I have read it doesn't seem boring. I was a little confused when I read the prologue and then started the first chapter, they had no relation to each other at all. But as I read further into the book it started to make sense. Also, the part when Dillon and his brother Preston tortured the cat to death because he scratched their dog, kind of weird but overall, I'm excited to keep reading.

I am happy with this book so far it is real and doesn't sugar coat things that people deal with in high school. I think this book is very good for anyone in high school.

DeleteAs I wasn't here to get my book at the beginning to read a few passages I'm not sure what the book entails, I have however, read the paragraphs on the back. Running Loose might be entertaining, with hardships and hopefully decent action. I picked it as my second choice if I'm not mistaken because the other 2, Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes and Chinese Handcuffs, just aren't good looking to me.

ReplyDeleteI received Stotan which was my third choice. I chose this book because it is about high school and being in athletics. From what I have read so far it is small group that sticks together. It's different from what I have read before, but I think I will enjoy it.

DeleteI chose the novel "Staying Fat Byrens" because it was one of the only few books that I was intrigued by just by the description alone. As I was starting the book, it was hard for me to put it down as it was able to keep my attention all the way through. As of writing this, I think I am enjoying this book more and more as I keep reading it. I am only on page 18, so I am unable to make any sort of connections as of writing this.

The fact that the book is based off kids in high school makes it seem interesting. I Like the book so far but it seems to be starting off really slow, so its hard to understand the characters roles .

So far, I am happy with the book that I have chosen. Currently I think the book is a really good book but the beginning can be confusing sometimes. I am also starting to make some connections with the characters which makes the book better because then I can also connect to the book and kind of understand the book a little better.

ReplyDeleteI chose Running Loose as my first choice of the 4 other books by Chris Crutcher. Running Loose caught my eye because of the mention of taking out an opponent. I thought it was an unexpected twist, and it would be a good read. So far, I have been enjoying it and do not regret my choice.
ReplyDeleteMy first choice was Chinese Handcuffs, but Staying Fat for Sarah Byrons is the book I received. It was my second choice and even though it was, I so far have come to really enjoy it and it keeps me going wanting to read more. It is about being an outcast, friendships, and about standing up for what is right even when it means betraying the trust of the one who has always been there. So far, it's been interesting to say the least I would say it's a fairly easy read and definitely worth checking out.
ReplyDeleteThe book I chose is Running Loose. I am enjoying the book so far. I'm glad I chose it. It is easy to follow along because I'm in high school and the book is about a kid in high school. I'm not into football but so far it's a good book it was surprising when Becki died in a car accident.
