Blog Response #2

Choose a character from your book.  How do you envision this character?  Use your words to describe how this character looks, acts, and behaves.  Also, discuss the impact this character has had on the story up to this point. Would you be friends with this character, or would you avoid him/her?  Why? What role does this character play in your book?  If this character was not in the book, would the book change?  Why or why not??  (Remember to give  specific details  and a complete blog entry, and  don't forget to comment on  two  other blog entries!   Happy Blogging! :)

  1. I envision Sarah Byrnes as a tough person. She has been through so much throughout her lifetime and she has handled it better than most people would have and I admire her for that.. Sarah Byrnes is a high-school student who has burns all over her entire face. People describe her as "ugly" and say rude things about her appearance. Sarah behaves very well and stands up for herself whenever others have something rude to say about her. Sarah is the main character in this book and the book revolves around the mystery of what actually happened that caused her to become burned in the face. I would be friends with Sarah because she sticks up for what she believes in. If Sarah was not in this book there would simply be no plot or mysteries throughout the book.

    1. I also see Sarah to be a though person not only physically but also mentally. I agree that she is a very strong person and handles every mean comment very well and tries to show that nothing bothers her anymore and she does not care what opinions others have about her. I too would also like to be friends friends with her not only because she sticks up for other and what she believes in but also she seems like a good person to be around and seems like a good friend that would always be there for you.

    2. i disagree because not all friends are there for you sometimes.

    3. I agree that Sarah is a tough person but I wonder how she has survived for so long. I would also be friends with her because appearances do not mean everything but the persons personality says a lot about that person.

    5. I think Sarah has some similarities to Dillion, the main character in my book, because he also has been through a lot with his brothers death.

    6. The protagonist of Chinese Handcuffs, Dillon Hemmingway is also someone I would consider to be a tough person just like Sarah. Dillon has also dealt with many things throughout his life up to this point like coming to terms with how he murdered a cat and witnessing his brother's mental state go downhill after an accident and his eventual suicide.

  2. If I were to pick one character from my book Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes I would pick Dale Thornton. I envision Dale to be a big, tall, and rough looking kid who is a bully and makes fun of kids a lot. Currently Dale is a big impact of Sarah Byrnes because during one point Sarah and Dale were really good friends and he could possibly be the only person left that can possible get Sarah to speak. I feel like I would be scared of Dale for awhile since he is knowing for being a bully. But, maybe eventually over time maybe try to get to know him more because sometimes when people turn into bullies they are actually going through something at home or mentally so I would like to be there for him and be a good friend. I think Dale plays the role of being a school bully but also being a good friend to Sarah. I believe that if Dale was not in the book then the book would change because even though Dale seems like a bad person, he has an important part in the book and adds a lot of detail to Sarah's story and what she is all going through.

    4. When I think of the characters in this book, I think of Eric and Sarah. But if I would pick one of them it would be Sarah; she is a fierce woman that is very headstrong and independent. Sarah Byrnes has already been through so much at a young age. From being burned by boiling water, to not speaking. She has made such an impact on her best friend Eric. He stayed fat for her. Most of the students say Sarah is ugly and say Eric is fat, but honestly, I do not think either of them are ugly or fat, everyone is unique in their own ways. If I see her in this school, I will hesitate at first and depending on how her attitude is that day maybe I would talk with her. Sarah Byrnes is the main character of this book; she is the mystery plot with finding out the truth of what happened to her face. If she wasn't in this book the book would not exist. It would just be "staying fat". If Sarah was not in this book there would be no mystery and what she is going through. The book would not be.

    5. I agree Sarah is strong willed and a fighter. She has been through a lot. Without Sarah there would be no point to the book because even though Eric is the narrator, the book seems to revolve around Sarah.

      Delete
    6. I envision Dale to be a big, rough looking kid as well. He is kind of the class bully. Sarah and Dale used to be enemies and are now kind of best friends. Without Dale, Eric would never know what actually happened to Sarah's face. I think Dale likes to make people think that he is mean and rude but he actually has a soft spot. I also would probably be scared of Dale just because of the way he acts sometimes. I also think Dale is going through something in his house that is causing him to be mean to others. I agree Dale is an important character throughout this book.

  3. My character from chinese handcuffs it would be Jen, one of Dillon's supposably Gf's. She is tall with luscious blonde hair and Athletic. She asks like a person who has never had real love before without having a dark feeling. She behaves like any normal person would act but when someone wants to talk about her past she acts completely different. The impact she had on this story is immaculate, she influences a lot of the main characters decisions like what he thinks about on a day to day basis. I would be friends with her because the same thing happened with my sister when she was growing up because my father was not at all normal. The role she plays in this book is the all star basketball player with a trouble past and a notion to stay away from her. If she was not in the book it would all just be about stacey and dillion.

    4. Riley I totally agree with you on what you said and it seems we both envision Jennifer very similar.

    5. From what I see, Jen reminds me of Nortie in my book with being a great athlete but also having a hard past with the abuse from his father.

    6. Jen sounds like Dale in my book. He is very headstrong and doesn't like to talk about his feelings either. He does not have the best father figure to look up to like Jen.

    7. My favorite character in Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes is Sarah. She is a high school girl who has burns all over her face caused by her own father. Sarah does not like talking about her past because she tried to keep it a secret that her dad caused the burns on her face and told everyone they were caused by a "pot of spaghetti." Sarah influences everyone in this book by always speak your opinion and always stand your ground. I also would be best friends with Sarah.

      Delete
    8. Nortie is a lot like Sarah Byrnes in the fact that he tries to hide his life at home with excuses that he comes up with on the spot but unlike Sarah Nortie doesn't speak his mind instead he surrounds himself with friends

  4. If i were to pick a character from my book I'm reading Running Loose i would choose to pick Lednicky. He is the head coach of the football team. What i see in him is he's not a good person with a very bad attitude towards the team. Making the team do drills that tire them out all the time and giving them curfews to be home on weekdays also weekends. I think later down the road hell realize that the team won't like him being like that but I'm not 100 percent sure. If Lednicky wasn't the head coach i believe that the kids would be a lot happier in life. Lednicky is sort of the main character in running loose so if there's no him then the book would have a whole different theme or message.

    2. Very interesting guy, seems like he likes to punish the football players and i would not want him to be my coach.

      Delete
    3. Lednicky reminds me of the character Ms.Lemry in my book. She is a swim coach while she does have a good attitude toward the team she is very had on the kids and pushes them very hard and expects them to do a hundred timed one-hundred yard swims, starting at two minute intervals. I also think that my character may experience the same problem with the kids not liking her as much when she does these extremely hard workouts.

  5. I picture Dillion as a athletic tall figure. He behaves like he has nothing to lose and doesnt care what anybody thinks about him. dillions brother is the one that killed himself so he plays as the person who tells us about his life before the book and how everything happened. If he wasnt in the book we wouldnt know anything about his brothers suicuide or the events that led up to it.

    3. Dillion just needs to give back to the school with his talents

  6. If I had to pick a character from the book Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, I would pick Eric Calhoune. I imagen Eric being this 6'3'' tall swimmer who is on the bigger side but is losing weight. Eric is very caring and is on the shy side, but will speak his opinion. He respects his other classmates and has a bestfriend he wanted to stay fat for because her face is burned. So far Eric is the main character telling the story from his point of view. He is one of Sarah's friend and tries to help her and figure out what is wrong when she stops talking. I would be his friend because of his personality and because of the way he cares for his friends. Eric has played a huge role in the book so far because he wants to help Sarah even though she says if he tries to help she will "kill" him. He also gives insight on Sarah's past and his past, which helps me as the reader figure out what happened with Sarah. If this character was not in the book the whole book would change because he is the only one who never made fun of Sarah and actually cares about her. If Eric was not in the book I believe Sarah would have ended her long ago and would not get the justice she mostly likely get with Eric's help.

    1. i feel the same about eric because he is caring and would be a good friend like you say

    2. I agree with your depiction of Eric. He has a huge role as the main character being that he is trying to please multiple people and it is starting to become a role conflict. Eric I agree does a great job telling the story, and the story would have taken a completely different turn long ago i think if Eric wasn't there to support Sarah.

      Delete
    3. I agree with the description of eric we had pretty similar patterns with height, how he acts, and overall looks. Eric is a major supporter for Sarah as you said many times and without him, I agree that the book would kind of be no fun.

  7. I am picking Jennifer from the book Chinese Handcuffs. The book describes her as a tall girl. I would assume she would be a popular girl since she is one of the best players in the state. She is well known and liked in her community. She is the coaches favorite player and the best on her team. She seems like a cool person to hang out with. Jennifer seems to be pretty humble and a good person. Jennifer is a victim of her step dad raping her. If she was not in the book it would be totally different because she is the main character and the story is all about her.

  8. Im doing Eric Calhoune. I think of Eric as a chubby, strurdy build, non confident, tall, teenage boy. He is confident in his swimming though he is always happy to push his limits to know he can out distance anyone. He dosnt have many friends. his best friend sarah brynes is a burn victum who recently stopped talking. He is driving the main story trying to figure out why she stopped talking. I think i would be friends with him because he is loyal to his friends by always sticking by there side. he also wont switch up as he gain more popularity like he told sarah he would stay fat for her so they are both ugly. this book would totally change if he was not in it. in this book we follow his life so without eric there would be no book.

    6. Kind of reminds me of Carter in Running Loose. Appearance wise is as far off as it could get, but speaking through personality, they are pretty similar. Loyal, stands up for their friends, and tries to be there when they need it the most.

  9. my character from running loose is Becky. Becky is the main characters girlfriend. I think she is good for him because she keeps him busy and is very supportive. Becky is the hottest girl in school and everybody wants her. She is in cheerleading and was going to quit just for Louie. because Louie quit the football team Becky was going to prove a point to the school and quit cheerleading just for Louie. I would defiantly be friends with is character because she is nice and supportive. I think the book would be very different if she wasn't in it. Without her he is more of a nerd and don't get out much. and when he quit football he talked to Becky and his family. without Becky he could've been more sad but with Becky she takes his mind of of football for a little bit.

  10. If I had to pick one character from my book Chinese Handcuffs I would have to choose Dillion Hemingway. I imagine Dillion as a tall skinny kid, who can run fast. From the facts that i read in the book i think Dillion is a smartass to Mr. Caldwell. Dillion always tries to win in arguments with Caldwell. I think Dillion has a big impact to the story because his brother Preston killed himself so now everyone tells Dillion he will be just like his brother. Dillion knows in his head that he's not and he is trying to prove himself but he just needs time. I think I could definitely be friends with Dillion because he always makes sure he gets his point across to everyone. Dillion plays the role of being one of the main characters in this story and also gives background on why his brother Preston's life went down hill, until finally he committed suicide. I don't think this book would have much of a meaning or story if Dillion hadn't been in it. I say that because Dillion writes a paper to his dead brother Preston a lot, which gives the readers a lot more background of the story.

    1. Dillion is very similar to the character in my book Eric Calhoune. He's very competitive in his sport and athletic. He always debates in his class and tries to be clever with his teacher and other classmates.

  11. In the book staying fat for Sarah Byrnes I envision Dale as a bully. That would not be friends with Sarah a girl that would be super easy to bully because of her burn marks. Sarah and Dale are actually friends in this book. I just think its weird that the school bully is friends with the weird kid in school.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I envisioned Dillon as a strong young individual person. I imagine him as a tall skinny kid who likes to run and be challenged in the things he does. The impact that Dillon has had on the story is that he has had a very big impact because his brother passed due to suicide and now everyone tells him he will be just like his brother. Dillon knows he won't be but he just needs time to prove to himself and the others that he won't be. I think that I could be friends with Dillon because when he gets in a disagreement with someone he will always end up getting his point across and I think that would be a good person to have hanging around with me. Yes the book would be a lot different because he is the main character and the whole story line would have to be different.

  13. if i had to pick a character from the book Chinese handcuffs i would choose Jennifer because she seems like a strong woman due to the things that she has dealt with. i see Jennifer being a decent height girl with blonde hair and has a big heart. she impacted the story with bringing up her trauma with her stepdad and she shows how she cares for people because the night she got admitted to the hospital she refused to let her sister go home and had her coach take her for the night. honestly i would want to be friends with her because she seems like the type to accept you for you and not judge you and just overall be a good person. Jennifer is one of the main characters because she is friends with dillions brother's girlfriend Stacy and a basketball player at their high school. if she was not in the book i feel like we wouldn't get to know if dillion is able to stop grieving over his brothers' death.

  14. I chose Dillon Hemmingway from the book that I am reading, Chinese Handcuffs. How I envision Dillon is him being tall and athletic with blonde hair. Though so far in the book we haven't seen a whole lot of him in the present day he does seem to be kind and caring yet a little intrusive. So far he is one of our two protagonists, his abilities made his brother Preston jealous and was a factor that pushed him towards suicide and he gives Jen a ride home from the hospital. If this character was not in the book half of the story would be missing and Jen would probably be more alone. I think that the effects of him not being in the novel would become more apparent as plot progresses from from current point onward as Dillon and Jen's story interconnect more. Most likely I would probably be friends with him, he seems like a well meaning guy though he has made mistakes in the past.

  15. I am choosing to describe Jennifer from Chinese Handcuffs. I envision her as a tall good-looking girl with blonde. She seems as if she would be very popular but also very humble and always seems to be happy on the outside even though she has a dark past due to her father sexually abusing her. Her and Dillon are both the main characters and the story will focus on how both of them connect due to them both experiencing something traumatic.

  16. If would pick one character from Chinese handcuffs I would pick Preston. I envision Preston to be short and skinny tired looking kid. Preston has a big role in Chinese Handcuffs because he was a big influence on Dillon. I would try to avoid Preston because he seams like a bad influence and just not a great person. Preston was Dillon's older brother and if Preston wasn't in the book Dillon wouldn't of had to worry as much and wouldn't have flash backs because he wouldn't of experienced Preston kill himself and he wouldn't of killed the neighbors cat because Preston couldn't have influenced those things to happen.

  17. I pick Jennifer from the book Chinese Handcuffs. I imagine Jen to be popular and thinks she is better than most people considering she is very athletic. The book mentioned she was tall with blonde hair. Jen has had a very big impact on the story so far because so far, it's all the book is talking about. If I knew Jen, I would be friends with her because she would need lots of friends after what Shes been through. Jennifer's role in the book is close to just as important as Dillon being the main character because without Jennifer the book would be way shorter.

  18. Dale Thornton is a character from Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes. I envision him as a big, husky guy, who is intimidating. In the book, he is a bully and everyone is scared of him. He lives down town in the slums where crime is high. In real life I would not be friends with Dale, because he doesn't have friends. He pushes anyone away who gets close. Without Dale, the book would not be the same. He has an important part in solving the mystery of Sarah Byrnes past. Without him we would be missing key parts to the story and information that is needed to solve the puzzle that is why Sarah Byrnes stopped talking.

She's been through a lot of trauma with men in her life and has a hard time trusting anyone. Jen has a little sister and tries to protect her in anyway she can. 21. Dillon I view as someone who tries avoiding his grief through sports and the upcoming triathlon. He drowns away his parents leaving and the suicide of his brother through his sports. He's very enthusiastic about sports that he participates in. He set the tone for the story and easily showed that this book was going to be of a person's problems. He starts this book on a grim note to set the tone later. I don't think I would be friends with him he's more proactive then I am I dislike sports he likes them quite a bit. If he wasn't in the book we'd start off with Jen which would set the same tone as Dillon's due to a death in the family very soon after the introduction.

  22. I envision Eric Calhoune as well meaning but not always doing the right thing. Eric is friends with Sarah Byrnes because he's an outcast just like her, so he mostly means to do the right thing when it comes to Sarah, however, he doesn't always think about his actions. Their newsletter Crispy Pork Rinds, for example, started off as a bonding experience for both of them to get back at the people who wronged them, their cause was to basically look out for the little guy, however when Dale entered the fray, Sarah and Dale started to fight over creative differences. When Eric tries to step in resolve it, his actions lead to him and Sarah drifting apart. Eric is concerned about Sarah and other people he cares about, but when it comes to his actions, they often go against the wishes of the people he tries to help such as when he tries to tell someone about Sarah's troubling home life, or ends up instigating the situation and making it worse then it was before, such as when he goes out with Jody, making Mark vengeful towards him. I would be friends with Eric because as stated before, he clearly means well, however he doesn't always make the best decisions despite his good intentions, however he still knows how to maintain a friendship by making up his mistakes by helping his friends when they need him. Eric is the main character and we, the audience, follow his past and present life from Junior to Senior year. If Eric was not in the book, not only would there be no story to tell, but some of the other characters lives would be cut short or worse off. Dale wouldn't have any friends, Sarah would likely be killed by her father, Jody would be stuck in a loveless and abusive relationship with Mark, and Ellerby would only have his father for company.

  23. A character in the book "Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes" is Sarah Byrne's dad. I envision him as tall, dark, brunette, intimidating, and strong. He is a really mean man. He's rude, disrespectful, and treats women and children badly. This character has had a great impact on the story so far as he is the reason Sarah looks the way she does and the reason Sarah's mom left. If I knew this character in real life, I'd 100% avoid him because he's an awful guy and I wouldn't want anything to do with him. Without him in the book, Sarah would live a happy life looking normal with her mother. That being said, this would completely alter the storyline of this book because if Sarah didn't have burn marks, she'd probably never talk to Eric.

    2. I have to completely agree with you and you're right without him she would be living a normal life, and she wouldn't have to deal with any of these problems that she is having, because he is in the book Sarah's life is so sad and I'm hoping it gets better for her own sanity.

    3. Sarah's dad reminds me of the head coach Lednecky in my book Running Loose just because he treats kids badly and I envision him the same way you envision Sarah's dad. Coach Lednecky has had a huge impact on the main character and the whole book, I would not play for his team if you payed me.

  24. If I had to pick one character from the book staying fat for Sarah Brynes, I would pick Sarah, I imagine that she has burns all over her face and all over her hands I feel like she has blonde hair and she's short with brown eyes, Sarah has had a very big impact on the book considering her name is on the front cover, this book tells her story from her best friends point of view in some ways. I think she has always been a nice kid but after her accident she has become very rude because of other people's words towards her. I wouldn't be best friends with her, but I would be friends with her because as long as your nice to her she would be nice back, if this character was not in this book, it would not be a book to begin with.

  25. Walter McMillian I believe he is tough and never gives up and he cares what happens and doesn't really show it he is a guy who acts like he doesn't care when he actually does he is a family guy and always try to help his family he is the Maine part of this story because Bryan Stevenson the author tell the story of all the stuff he has gone thought on death row. he is the guy that the author is trying to get off death row because he has a rock solid alibi. the book probably would never get to the point

  26. I have the book Staying Fat for Sarah Byrons and I picked the character Eric Calhoune. I envision Eric Calhoune as this character that is fat kid losing weight, taller about 6"1, determined especially with swimming and his friend Sarah Bryon's. Eric also known as Moby has always depended on Sarah Byrnes to come up with unique ways to get back at the bullies who tormented them daily as children. Eric is an intelligent young man but was frightened and embarrassed when he was teased and would often take whatever the bullies wanted to dish out. Sarah Byrnes stood up, took the hits, and helped Eric to find outlets for his frustration. Eric has had an impact on some people in this book one being Sarah Byrons he had never made her feel like she was alone and stayed by her side being her friend. I don't know if I would be his friend, but he is like the kid that you have a class with that just makes the class better and makes you feel welcome. Eric is a main character in this book who is very passionate about swimming. I feel like this book wouldn't be the same and it would give an entire new prospective and that Sarah would just be left all alone and honestly there would be no book its Eric and his life.

  27. If I had to pick on character, it would be Sarah Brynes, she is the character that suck out to me as i keep reading, I Imagin her having deep wounds all over her hands and face from being burnt she has blonde hair and is short and tiny. Sarah has a very big impact in this story because she is the main character and the story is named after her, this story also goes into detail about what her life is about and how she got her burns. I believe that she is a very sweet and caring but she just gets made fun of for her burns that she can't control. i would be friends with her just so i could get to know her and help because i know she has to deal with a lot with her dad this book wouldn't be the same without her.

    1. I agree with everything you said, and I think it is very sad that her whole personality changed in a negative way just because of an accident that happened to her as a kid, and I blame her dad for not doing anything about it.

  28. For my character I chose Boomer, I imagine Boomer as a tall and good built guy. He walks around all tough and says he isn't afraid of anyone and always wants to please his coach. Boomer has had a pretty big impact on the plot considering he is thee one the bullies Louie and hurt an opposing player. Honestly i would avoid Boomer he isn't a good person at all. If he was not in the book a lot would change i mean he bullies Louie and that opposing player would be in the game yet.

    2. I also imagine Boomer as a tall well built guy. He is pry my least favorite character but his character is what makes the book good. I think both coach and Boomer are both gonna get a reality check

  29. I envision Nortie Wheeler as a person who is distant from the world. Nortie is a senior at Frost High School that doesn't talk much outside of his friend group. He is one of the better swimmers in his group, but they all stick together. He is quite and insecure because of the abuse that his father puts onto him and his mother. He is always trying to please everyone, even when it can be impossible to please a specific person. I think Nortie is they biggest impact in the story so far because he is the reason for the sadness. I don't know if I would be friends with him or not, but I could make connections with him about deaths in family. If Nortie wasn't in this story it would go by very differently and even a lot smoother. You would have all the harsh things about his family and him being the one in the group that gets picked on the most.

  30. For my character I pick Louie from my book running loose, I imagine Louie to be a decently tall and scrawny. I also think that he has more feelings than anyone on his team. Louie wants to impress his coach but is not willing to hurt someone for it. Louie has probably the biggest role considering he is the main character and the story follows him. I also feel bad for Louie because he pry lost a bunch of friends after getting off the football team just because he didnt listen to his coach.

    1. Louie seems like a character from my book Stotan. Louie and Nortie have similar views and role in the story. I would agree that if i were to be kicked off a football team, and lose the privilege's of seeing and being with my friends would be detrimental just for not listening to my coach.

    3. I agree with Dillon on this one but Nortie is smaller than Louie and has been beaten so in some aspects Nortie holds in a lot of his emotions. Which is demonstrated when he got beat by his dad in front of walker.

  31. I envision Dillon Hemingway as a tall muscular teenager who hides his emotions Infront of people and tries to put on a tough guy act. But when he gets around people that he trusts like Jen or Stacy he becomes more himself, he can joke around but can also get very emotional about the trauma he has faced in his life. Dillon has played a huge roll in this book being one of the main characters, we learn more and more about his brothers' suicide and how it's made him feel as i get deeper in the book. I would try to be nice to Dillon if i were friends with him, just knowing what he's gone through in his life at such a young age. If he was not in the book, I don't think it would make sense we wouldn't have anyone to tell us about Preston's suicide .

    1. I agree that Dillon feels like he can in a way escape from everything else when he is with Jen especially.

  32. I envision Jen as someone who has very thick skin. She has been through a lot from her childhood until now. Whether that is being sexually abused, losing a loved one, and having to take on the responsibility of her siblings, she has overcome all of this and it has made her into the person she is now. Jen is the type of person I would want to be friends with because I feel as though she would do anything to protect me. In Chinese Handcuffs, Jen plays the roll of a young girl that has been through so much trauma and it has only made her stronger. If Jen was not in chinese handcuffs, we would not understand the type of trauma her and Dillon go through day-to-day and I think that is what makes it so easy for them to be there for eachother.

    1. She kind of reminds me of Becky from Running Loose. While she hasn't gone through as much hardship as Jen from what I have read from comments, she has gone through her own obstacles and trauma. This caused her to try and triumph over these obstacles and become better than what has had happened to her. Becky is to Louie as Dillon is to Jen, one helps the other with their problems and is always there for each other.

  33. I envision Boomer from Running Loose to be tall, about 6'2". Weighing about 220lbs. Boomer is one of the biggest guys on his football team, I picture him having brown curly hair. He is the "bully" of the team, and likes to pick on all the players weaker and smaller than him. Boomer decided to purposely injure Washington, a kid of color on the opposing team, and this action sent the main character Louie into a spiral. He quit the team because he stood up for Washington and thought it was unfair that he was hurt on purpose and the ref, Lednecky, and other teammates said nothing and went on the win the game that night. If I went to school with Boomer, I would probably avoid him. He has too big of an ego and seems like the type that wouldn't take responsibility and be immature about everything. A lot of the book would change if Boomer was not in it. If there was no Boomer then Louie wouldn't have quit football and the rest of the book is based off of Louie's decision to not play anymore.

  34. i choose Dillion i envision this character as an average kid that lost someone that he was close to and it made him the quiet kid in the back of the class. i would try to avoid him because at this stage of grief he seems a little egy.

  35. I envision Louie as the kid that looks good on the outside but has problems or has low self-esteem. Louie acts and behaves like someone who knows what they are doing, but doesn't know anything on the inside. Louie is the main character of Running Loose, thus we are able to see who he truly is. The way Louie acts is the reason he is no longer on the football team.

  36. I see Norite in my book STOTAN! as a slightly nerdy and extremely buff college student and teacher who hides himself because his father beats him, his mother, and his past trauma haunts him.

  37. Boomer. Boomer is certainly one of the characters of all time. He's the typical jock bully that is highly racist. He has caused Louie to not only lose his football career but also tried to hurt him badly several times too. I would likely avoid him, as he's not someone who I would hang around since he's like an antagonist towards Louie. The book would change a lot for the better, Louie would have his football career back, the main racist in the story would go to someone like Lednecky or something, and he'd certainly make the story better if he was gone.

  38. I envision Nortie as that one friend who always makes jokes and is fun to be around but when hes not, you really question what going on with him. Nortie is a scrawny kid who is really good at swimming. He is always fun to be around. Nortie has had a significant impact on this story so far. During his time in stotan week he kind of breaks down and lets alot out for Walker to hear. His brother killed himself because of the beating his dad put on him. A little after this Nortie disapeered and left a note saying he wouldnt do what his brother did. I think it would be challenging to be his friend because you never know what to expect but sometimes its kind of nice. Norties role in this book is to make someone question whats happening with him and if he wasnt in the story people wouldnt have anything leading them on.

  39. I think Louie is a good kid, he gets good grades and puts a lot of effort into sports. When he gets kicked off the football team for arguing with the coach things go downhill for him. Then his girlfriend Becki dies in a car accident. He is depressed and broken up. He gets angry and doesn't handle the funeral well. He shouted at the reverend. His boss Dakota helps him get back on track.
